The traditional playhouse is often a hassle to set up and takes up a lot of space. But designer Kim Hyun-Gon believes that even children in small dwellings should have a little private space, so he came up with the Accordion Play House – a foldable, expandable playhouse that can be set up and hidden away in seconds. The play house incorporates the unique folding principles of origami and can be stretched and shrunk to change the form and size. It solves the problem of spatial inefficiency with a folding body that shrinks and stretches just like an accordion. The playhouse is perfect for small rooms. Folded up, it requires little space and can be stored in a closet, under a bed, or simply stashed in a corner of a child’s bedroom or playroom. The Accordion Play House is designed so that multiple Playhouses can be linked together. All of the fronts and backs connect with Velcro, allowing friends or siblings to connect Playhouses for a larger shared space in which to play together. The walls of the house are constructed of PET felt, a material which minimizes dust, and allows optimal air flow and light penetration.
The playhouse has been launched on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, where you can pre order the playhouse at a discounted price. Prices start at $99.
