Before we get into the details of this beautiful 1962 40-foot Western Pacific Airstream, it’s important to understand why it’s such a special trailer, and why the current owners wanted to undergo such a significant challenge to make it into something beautiful.
Aluminum Skin
In 1962, The Western Pacific Railroad Company hired Airstream to construct ten 40-foot trailers as railway laying crew accommodation. These trailers differed from other Airstream units in that they were symmetrical from end to end and manufactured by riveting two 20-foot trailers together down the middle.
In 1989, the Airstreams were removed from their flat cars. Two were destroyed, two went to railroad museums in California, and the rest were sold at auctions around the country. For a family to end up with one is quite extraordinary, and even more so when they wanted to entirely restore it. Timeless Travel Trailers were given this task, with the Airstream to end up as a vacation residence. The owners wanted it to have a wide open feel, a large galley, and mid-century flair.
Living Area
At one end of the symmetrical 40-foot trailer sits the living area, made up of an L-shaped sofa contrasting beautifully against the warming hues of the wood. The aluminum skin encompasses this area and adds that mid-century charm the owners preferred.
Two 20-Foot Trailers
Timeless Travel Trailers added beautiful aluminum skin throughout, plank bamboo flooring for warmth, and walnut veneer cabinetry with horizontal windows. These windows would offer unobstructed views.

Strong wood themes add character to the space.
The Kitchen
In the spacious kitchen and dining area, there is plenty of storage, places to cook, and plenty of room to eat a meal too.
White Counters
On top of the cabinetry sat white counters, which were sleek, stylish, and reflected white to enhance that feeling of space and airiness.

The Airstream kitchen is more than just functional; it’s a well-designed space that maximizes storage and style, while still providing all the amenities of a home kitchen.
The Bedroom
The bedroom of this Airstream features a cozy bed and a desk area, providing a perfect retreat for a good night’s sleep and a productive workday.
Focal Point
Located at the rear of the trailer, the bedroom provides a private and serene retreat where you can rest and relax after a day of adventure. The placement of the bedroom in the rear of the trailer also allows for a stunning view of the rest of the living space, making it a focal point of the entire interior.
Storage Bed
What sets the bed in this bedroom apart is its lift-up storage feature. This innovative design element allows you to store your belongings in a convenient and accessible way. You can easily lift up the bed to access the storage area underneath, which can be used to store everything from clothing and bedding to camping gear and outdoor equipment.
The Bathroom
Tucked away out of sight is the bathroom, which is functional, cozy, yet contemporary and sleek. It takes on the same mid-century styling as the rest of the trailer.
Built-in Cabinet
The bathroom is surprisingly uncramped, with enough space to comfortably move around and perform daily routines; in addition to the charming round sink, there is also a beautifully crafted built-in cabinet that not only complements the overall aesthetic of the room but also provides ample storage for toiletries and essentials.
Vanity
One of the standout features of this Airstream bathroom is the midcentury-style vanity, which provides a sleek and stylish look. The built-in lights are another notable feature.
Ceramic Backsplash
The galley, toilet, and shower all share the same stylish ceramic backsplash to tie the entire trailer together.
