French tiny house company Baluchon is already well-known for its collection of high-quality tiny homes, but their newest creation has undoubtedly put them on the map. Moulinsart is one of their latest tiny homes, and this single-storey structure with no mezzanine is a real head-turner.
It’s an open-plan tiny home installed on a seven-metre-long trailer with a unique trapezoid window at one end. Not only does this window make this house unique, but it also follows the modern shaping of the gable in the living area.
Baluchon customer ‘Bruno’ lives in Moulinsart year-round in Mayenne, a commune in France. It has everything he needs for everyday living. It boasts a fully equipped kitchen, a removable table in the living area, a bathroom with a shower and dry toilet, and a warm living room with a wood-burning stove.
While there is no dedicated bedroom, Bruno turns the bench seat in the living room into a bed at night.
Baluchon hasn’t listed a price for the Moulinsart tiny house online, but their tiny homes typically sell for between €85,000-100,000, or around $94,600-111,300.
‘Moulinsart’ is a single-storey tiny house with no mezzanine floor built by the French tiny house company Baluchon for their customer, Bruno. Bruno lives in this tiny home on a seven-metre-long trailer full time.
Quality materials have been used in this tiny home’s creation from the ground up, including mixed wooden and aluminium joinery, double glazing for soundproofing and insulation, and UV-resistant red cedar siding. Completing the look is a standing steam aluminium panel roof.
Access to Moulinsart is through the kitchen in the centre of the tiny home. You immediately notice the three-layer spruce planks with a tinted finish. It contrasts beautifully against the raw white spruce panel walls.
All interior fittings work in harmony with the spruce flooring and walls. Baluchon installed a combination of walnut and spruce furnishings for elegance and a natural finish. There is also a removable table that can be moved into the living room.
The kitchen cabinetry features the same gorgeous spruce and walnut materials as the living area. It’s also well-equipped for year-round living with a gas oven and stove top as well as a Saunier Duval gas water heater.
Black fixtures in the kitchen look striking against the rich spruce and walnut wood in the kitchen. The well-positioned window in front of the kitchen also ensures plenty of natural light for meal preparation.
Storage is certainly not lacking in the kitchen. There are built-in shelves for jars and black metal shelving units for utensils and other kitchen essentials.
This tiny home’s owner can be toasty and warm throughout the year thanks to the wood-burning stove positioned between the kitchen and living area. Cotton, linen, and hemp insulation in the ceiling, walls, and floors can also ensure the tiny home remains warm for extended periods.
There is a storage unit with cupboards and drawers opposite the wood-burning stove. This practical piece can be used for kitchen goods and household essentials.
The living area is light, bright, and spacious, with a large trapezoid window letting in plenty of light. There is also an industrial-style shelf that can easily store books, plants, and knick-knacks.
The trapezoid window in Moulinsart is undoubtedly one of the main features of this tiny house. It’s at the rear of the property and follows the shape of the living room’s gable.
The gorgeous living room is further enhanced through the installation of a convertible bench. This bench boasts a pull-out drawer for storage. It can quickly transform into a bed for the owner to use at night.
The fold-down desk in the living room is an innovative piece of furniture. It can be used to store knick-knacks when it’s folded flat or outwards.
Thinking of both comfort and off-the-grid living, Baluchon installed a dry toilet with a stainless-steel bucket and shavings compartment. The toilet is tucked away in its own niche with wall shelves behind it.
The shower is everything you need in a home of any size. It’s an 80x80cm white shower with a gorgeous black showerhead. The yellow shower curtain certainly makes the space ‘pop’!
Adjacent to the shower is a gorgeous piece of furniture and storage. It’s tucked away in its own walnut-framed niche with an opening window. It’s a nice addition to the bathroom.
