This gorgeous slate cabin was designed by architects Jonathon Donnelly and Jennifer McMaster and is one of eight winning entries for The Epic Retreats, a competition that invited architects from across the world to design unique glamping units themed on the mythology, tradition and beauty of Wales.
Jonathon Donnelly and Jennifer McMaster were inspired by the Welsh slate industry and wanted the cabin to mimic the art of constructing cairns, whereby walkers collect stones and build place-markers along their route.
In contrast to its grey slate exterior, inside you’ll find a single, cosy room clad with honeyed wood. A kitchen and built-in table form a sitting space, while the bed sits on a raised platform providing a magnificent view of the surrounding scenery.
The cabin is one of eight cabins which are the focus of a new Channel 4 documentary ‘Cabins in the Wild’ (every Sunday at 8pm). All eight cabins are inspired by Welsh legends and together they form Epic Retreats – Wales’ first pop-up boutique hotel – ready to welcome guests this summer.
At one end of the cabin, a long window in front of a seat and desk frames a panoramic view of the Welsh landscape.
Natural light bathes the space, and a pot-bellied stove brings warmth and cosiness.
The cabin fits effortlessly into its surroundings and embodies simplicity and style.
