Malmö was recently named the 5th best city in the world for cyclists so it seems only appropriate that the first hotel in the world designed entirely for cyclists should open its doors in the Swedish city.
The Ohboy hotell, that opened this summer, has no valet or parking spots for cars. Instead it is full of bicycle friendly solutions like a foldable bike in every room, pump and wash stations and tools to fix guests bikes on the go. Visitors can easily rent bikes through the bike-sharing app Donkey Republic if they need more than one bike.
Behind the project are Hauschild + Siegel, acting as architects and developers. For the furnishing and decoration of the hotel the company worked together with local designers. All the materials are from the south of Sweden. Malmö based Lisa Hilland and Mats Theselius have designed the furnitures, and the beautiful wooden stair and other details are made by Branders snickeri in Kirseberg, Malmö all from northern Skåne ash. Illustrator Sara Granér has done a mural in the foyer and the logo on the facade is also her work.
Ohboy contains 55 apartments and 31 loft hotel rooms, built for a modern, urban life.
The bedroom and bathroom are located downstairs and the kitchen, lounge corner and work space upstairs in the hotel loft rooms.
There are basic cooking necessities in the kitchen
Every hotel room has it´s own entrance directly from the street with a small garden outside. Guests, that bring their own bikes, can easily park them outside or even bring them inside.
The hotel has a green profile. The building uses geothermal heating from the plot, and solar cells on the roof decreases the need for external energy sources.
