Trying to afford an apartment in France is no easy feat, but it could be if you set your sights on something smaller. That’s what a 24-year-old woman did when she tried to get onto the property ladder. She found a 20m2 (215 ft2) studio apartment a mere few kilometers from Chantilly and spent 50,000 euros (about $56,000) transforming it into a fun and functional space. She also didn’t let the small footprint scare her.
With the help of Patricia Coignard from Atmosphères Design, they were able to turn the previously drab and dull apartment into one of space, contemporary elegance, and flair. Every single square meter has been planned to perfection, with room for two people to comfortably sleep, dine, and relax. The goal for the owner was to create a bright, Scandinavian-inspired space that would not let aesthetics compromise function.
A second tier for the living area also became a platform for storage, with pull out drawers for shoes, bedroom items, and a double bed.
There are plenty of storage nooks for all the homeowner’s possessions.
The double bed is one of the most prominent features of this apartment. It slides out on a platform on wheels and takes minimal effort to push back in once the night draws to a close.
The living area above is a drawcard as well. It features clean lines, beautiful carpeting, adjustable lighting, and a chic bench.
Even the cat has its own bed in the comfort of the French apartment.
An entire wall with a built-in entertainment area became cupboards.
The mix of oak with shades of blue and white have lifted this studio apartment to new heights.
Once the occupants work up a hunger, it’s the kitchen’s time to shine. The owner wanted meal preparation to be concealed from the living space, and this wasn’t difficult.
Patricia incorporated a bar area with seating, striking white cabinetry, beautiful blue paint, and a storage bookshelf that adds division between the front door and the kitchen.
The entrance is stylish, sleek, and secluded from the rest of the studio.
