If you’re ready to settle down and enjoy the finer things in life without the burden of an overwhelming mortgage, the New Hampshire-based tiny home company, Backcountry Tiny Homes, has you covered.

Retirement is a gooseneck-style tiny home featuring a standing bedroom, a second loft, a spacious bathroom, a well-equipped kitchen, and a laundry area. It even has a mudroom area to keep the winter muck out of your living space, as well as a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty and warm year-round.
With two lofts, it also comfortably accommodates a couple or a small family in the long term or short term. The options are endless for how Retirement can cater to your unique needs.
The turnkey price for this tiny home is $197,000 + taxes, but you can also purchase it unfurnished for $180,625 + taxes. The shell price for you to add your own stamp is $88,700 + taxes.
Retirement is a gorgeous farmhouse-style tiny home spanning 38 feet by 10 feet, designed by New Hampshire-based tiny home company Backcountry Tiny Homes. Whether you’re an individual, couple, or small family, Retirement caters to your everyday needs with two loft bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a mudroom area, and laundry. It also offers abundant storage space throughout.
Backcountry Tiny Homes designed this tiny home to be at the pinnacle of modernity. The exterior is a mix of metal and knotty tongue-and-groove cedar siding, which contrasts beautifully against the black aluminium joinery.
Upon entering, it’s clear to see this tiny home has the wow factor. The large windows let in plenty of natural light, but they are also assisted by dimmable LED ceiling lights and decorative pendant, sconce, and cove lighting throughout. The fresh, white-painted board-and-batten walls are modern but don’t detract from the rustic farmhouse styling.
Storage isn’t lacking in this tiny home. Upon entry, you’ll find a mudroom area to store away your outdoor garments and footwear easily.
Despite Retirement’s conservative footprint, the living and dining area is spacious and well-organised. The stained tongue-and-groove knotty pine ceilings offer the illusion of height, while the light-coloured walls expand the available space. Each area also boasts different flooring to suit various purposes and spaces, including engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl planks, and luxury vinyl tiles.
The wood stove in the living area is an undeniable highlight. It easily heats the entire home, but is supplemented by the mini-split HVAC system. There is also an electric heater in the bathroom.
The living and dining area is cosy and practical. Two people can comfortably dine at the kitchen bench. Another two can relax on the sofa in the living area.
The designers at Backcountry Tiny Homes have thought outside the box with the small but functional kitchen. It features a U-shaped kitchen with a gorgeous quartz countertop, counter seating, and rich blue cabinetry. To maximise all available space, there are also toe-kick drawers.
The home’s chef can cook up a storm in the kitchen with plenty of natural light before enjoying the fruits of their labour, with great views from the large windows. They can also wash dishes at the undermount stainless-steel basin with a pull-down faucet.
There is no shortage of light in the kitchen, thanks to both pendant lighting and large windows that illuminate the space.
The rich blue kitchen cabinetry pairs well with the modern gas range, microwave range hood, and sleek black 10-cubic-foot fridge.
Upon entering the kitchen, your eye is drawn to the engineered hardwood flooring and stairs leading to the first loft bedroom.
The wooden stairs leading to the standing loft are cleverly designed as storage drawers.
Maintain a sense of order in your home with two full closets with hanging storage and shelving. There is also plenty of space for a washer and dryer to be tucked away in the closet.
The gorgeous, rich wood bathroom is a pleasant surprise at the rear of the tiny home. There is a plumbed toilet, a vessel sink vanity with drawer storage, and an illuminated medicine cabinet above it. The washer-dryer is located in this space, behind the closet doors.
The shower is similar to those found in most contemporary homes. It has vinyl tile walls and a handheld shower head. The tiles match the flooring around the plumbed toilet.
The bathroom is centrally located between the first loft bedroom and the kitchen for easy access.
While loft bedrooms in tiny homes are often cramped or awkward, the main loft in the Retirement model by Backcountry Tiny Homes breaks that mold entirely. This isn’t your typical crawl-in loft — it’s a standing loft, accessible by a full staircase and offering an impressive six feet, six inches of headroom.
There’s ample floor space for a king-sized mattress and even a closet, making it feel more like a true bedroom than a tucked-away nook. Large windows on both sides invite natural light and allow for a refreshing cross breeze, creating an airy, comfortable retreat that proves small-space living doesn’t have to mean sacrificing comfort.
The secondary loft, accessible from the main loft, fits a full-size mattress and delivers three feet, four inches of headspace. It easily sleeps one to two people.
