She Bought a Vintage Airstream on eBay Without a Plan – Now One of Her Most Beautiful Restorations Is for Sale

Some businesses begin with meticulous planning, detailed business plans, and years of preparation. Tiny Haven began with a single impulsive click.

Back in 2018, Danielle did something she had never done before: she clicked the “Buy Now” button on eBay to purchase a vintage 1976 Airstream Ambassador. There was just one problem, or rather, several. The trailer was sitting in California while Danielle was in Vermont. She had never towed a trailer before, and she did not even own a truck.

What could easily have turned into a costly mistake instead became one of the best decisions of her life.

That bold purchase marked the beginning of Tiny Haven, the company Danielle co-founded with her husband, Jonathan, and one that would completely transform not only her career but also her way of life. What started with restoring a single vintage Airstream gradually evolved into a glamping retreat before growing into a company specializing in custom tiny homes and one-of-a-kind RVs.

Over the years, Tiny Haven has created an impressive collection of small spaces, including two tiny homes, a glamping dome, luxury safari tents, cabins, cottages, two converted school buses, a campervan, and now three beautifully restored Airstreams.

The latest addition to that collection is “Sol,” a meticulously renovated 1965 Airstream Caravel that perfectly captures Tiny Haven’s philosophy of blending vintage character with contemporary comfort.

Finding Sol required another road trip. Danielle’s mother discovered the vintage Airstream in Florida while Danielle was once again back home in Vermont. Knowing the trailer’s polished aluminium shell had been exceptionally well cared for over the decades, Danielle made the journey down the East Coast to purchase it. Although the exterior was in remarkable condition, the interior was completely stripped back during the renovation. Tiny Haven removed everything down to the subfloor and aluminium skins, eliminating all of the original plumbing and electrical systems before rebuilding the camper from the ground up with an entirely new floor plan.

The result is a vintage trailer that retains all of its iconic 1960s charm while offering the reliability and convenience of a modern tiny home.

Measuring just 17 feet long and weighing approximately 2,250 pounds, Sol is compact enough to be towed by a wide variety of vehicles, making it an appealing option for anyone looking to travel without needing an oversized truck. While many vintage trailers require constant maintenance, virtually every major system inside Sol has already been replaced. Tiny Haven installed an entirely new 50-amp electrical system, all-new plumbing, a new black water tank, new drainage, waterproof luxury vinyl plank flooring, modern lighting, and a freshwater hookup, ensuring that the camper is ready for years of adventures ahead.

One of the biggest changes is that Sol operates entirely on electricity. Unlike many traditional RVs, there is no propane system to worry about. Everything, from cooking to heating the water, runs on electric power, simplifying maintenance while making the trailer feel much more like a modern apartment than a conventional camper.

That apartment-like feeling continues throughout the interior. Danielle designed Sol with a warm mid-century modern aesthetic, using natural wood finishes, soft neutral colours, clean lines, and thoughtful built-in storage to create a space that feels both timeless and inviting. Despite its compact footprint, the trailer never feels cramped thanks to the careful layout and abundance of natural light.

The kitchen occupies one side of the trailer and is surprisingly well equipped for everyday living.

 It features a deep stainless-steel sink, an electric refrigerator, a portable induction cooktop, a microwave, generous cabinetry, and a dedicated pantry. Storage has been incorporated both above and below the countertops, while clever details such as built-in countertop power outlets make preparing meals considerably easier than many people would expect inside a 17-foot camper.

Directly opposite the kitchen sits a cosy dinette designed for two people.

Whether used for enjoying breakfast, sharing dinner, or working remotely from the road, it creates a comfortable place to sit without occupying unnecessary space.

Between the dining area and the bathroom is a full-height wardrobe, offering ample hanging space while also providing easy access to the electrical breaker panel.

At the front of the trailer, the living room has been designed with flexibility in mind. During the day, a custom-built sofa provides a comfortable place to relax, read, or watch the world outside through the panoramic front windows.

At night, it quickly transforms into a full-size double bed complete with a six-inch memory foam mattress. One particularly thoughtful design feature is that even with the bed fully extended, occupants can still comfortably move through the front entrance. Additional storage has been cleverly hidden beneath the sofa.

Modern comforts continue throughout the trailer. Heating and cooling are provided by a highly efficient 9,000 BTU mini-split system that keeps the interior comfortable throughout the seasons. An electric fireplace adds extra warmth during cooler evenings while also creating a cosy atmosphere. Since the fireplace and mini-split operate on separate electrical circuits, they can both be used simultaneously when needed. A rooftop ventilation fan offers additional airflow by drawing fresh air inside or exhausting warm air during the summer months.

Perhaps nowhere is the renovation more dramatic than inside the bathroom. Tiny Haven completely removed the original plumbing before redesigning the entire layout to make the compact space significantly more practical. The result is a beautifully tiled wet bath that feels far more luxurious than most vintage RV bathrooms.

It includes a shower, an RV toilet, a comfortable bench seat, and a ceiling-mounted shower curtain that keeps water neatly contained while bathing. Beneath the stylish finishes lies an entirely new plumbing system and black water tank, ensuring that the bathroom is every bit as functional as it is attractive.

Outside, Sol proudly retains everything people love about vintage Airstreams. Its beautifully polished aluminium shell gleams with a mirror-like finish that reflects its surroundings while showcasing the timeless curves that have made Airstream trailers iconic for generations. The exterior also features an extendable awning for shaded outdoor living, brand-new tyres including the spare, stabilising jacks, a 50-amp electrical hookup, freshwater connection, black tank valve, and the exterior condenser unit for the mini-split system.

Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of Sol is its versatility. It has been designed to serve equally well as a travel trailer for unforgettable road trips, a stylish glamping retreat, a unique Airbnb rental, a backyard guest house, or even a full-time tiny home.
