As far as traditional tiny houses go, Ellèbore by French tiny house company Baluchon is a little out of the ordinary. With a living room upstairs and a bedroom on the ground floor, it well and truly bucks the trend. It also has large windows for optimal lighting, a gorgeous sage and red cedar exterior, and a seamless layout for comfortable everyday living.
This beautiful and unique tiny house was delivered to east France for new owners Camille and Gladys to become their main home. While Baluchon hasn’t listed Ellèbore’s price online, homes of this caliber typically sell for between €85,000 and 100,000, or around $94,600 to 111,300.
Ellèbore stands out from the crowd with its expansive six-metre trailer and gorgeous red cedar cladding pairing seamlessly with its sage green aluminium accents. Baluchon also ensured its owners’ comfort year-round with cotton, linen, and hemp insulation in its floors, walls, and ceilings. Even the coldest French winters will be manageable for Ellèbore’s new owners.
Entry into Ellèbore is through the kitchen, where you’re greeted by gorgeous sage green cabinetry paired with natural wood countertops and floors. The kitchen is well-equipped for everyday meal preparation with a generous work surface and a two-burner gas hob. Adjacent to the kitchen is a small set of steps leading to the living room.
Those cold winter evenings need never be a problem in Ellèbore. A beautiful black wood stove takes pride of place in the kitchen. The Baluchon team even created dedicated storage space for wood and maintenance accessories underneath and on the adjacent wall.
Storage space is certainly not lacking in the light, bright, and spacious kitchen. There’s a built-in fridge-freezer and an abundance of cabinetry and drawers for everyday kitchen essentials.
Even Camille and Glady’s cat is well catered to in Ellèbore. There’s a dedicated drawer with a cat face cut out of it to form the cat’s entry door. This is where they can store their cat’s litter box, food, toys, and other pet essentials. It tucks away out of sight to solve that all-too-common clutter problem in tiny homes.
Adjacent to the main entrance is a four-step staircase with storage guiding you to the comfortable and intimate living area. Baluchon made the first two steps removable for storage to maximize all available space.
At first glance, you won’t even know this tiny house has a bedroom. A small, unassuming, light wood sliding door has been installed next to the wood stove, leading straight to the bedroom on the ground floor. While conservative in size, it has enough room for a 160 x 200-centimetre bed. Despite its small size, the painted walls and large window ensure plenty of natural light throughout the day.
With the living space slightly elevated from the rest of the home, safety is a primary consideration in Ellèbore. Baluchon installed a striking spruce screen to add definition to the house and keep the mezzanine floor secure.
A comfortable office is tucked away behind the spruce screen. It functions as a convenient wall to border a desk and chair.
The intimate living room is home to a convertible sofa backed by large storage niches. There’s also a beautiful oak coffee table for Camille and Gladys to enjoy their morning coffee on. The living room also has large windows to let in plenty of natural light.
While the living room is perfect for relaxing, it can also be an additional guest room. The sofa folds out into a comfortable bed for one or two guests.
Storage can be complicated in tiny homes. However, Baluchon has thought of everything. They installed a generous storage space above the bathroom at the rear of the tiny house.
The bathroom is basic but stylish and practical. It has all-natural wood walls and a dry toilet with a stainless-steel bucket complete with a shavings compartment. There is even a built-in poop step!
The 80 x 80-centimetre shower sits opposite the toilet in the bathroom. It’s akin to those found in your average home – albeit slightly smaller than some.
