In the medieval old town of Vilnius, Lithuania sits a lovely and functional micro home that used to be a blight on the landscape. Now, however, it’s almost a work of art.
Indrė Mylytė-Sinkevičienė and his team from IM Interior were given the task of trying to turn a small, dilapidated garage attached to brick pantries into a liveable, workable space with character. It would have to work with its industrial surroundings, but it would also have to be a place of comfort for the occupant to work, sleep, and live comfortably. In 21 square meters of space, was that achievable? IM Interiors made it happen.
The micro home has cordon steel to tie it in with the industrial landscape, but it also has warm birch wood lining to break through the harshness of its surroundings. Such a combination of colors ended up working beautifully with the brick pantries on one side, the block of flats adjacent, and the tree-covered hills to the rear. Even though the micro home’s exterior looks old, however, it’s merely an illusion.
The single-room micro home also manages to fit a living, dining, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom area all into one area.
The living, dining and bedroom area has two narrow windows for contrasting views, while the bed sits beneath a window encompassed by storage.
You can increase your mattress size to suit your needs.
Then, adjacent, there is a full desk and workspace for the occupant to complete a full day of work with views to vibrant greenery.
If you need additional light for working, you also get it courtesy of the hidden strip lights which add a warm glow to the interior but light up the weathered steel exterior too. This study station doubles as a dining area too.
Adjacent, the warmth of the birch contrasted against the harshness of the industrial setting comes into its own. There is a full-size kitchen with ample bench space and hidden appliances, and this area makes full use of the light and the warming hues.
The compact bathroom sits adjacent to the living nook.
Tying the full package together with hints of both contemporary elegance and industry is the bathroom.
This compact area has striking triangle tiled flooring, full wall tiling, and a full shower with a wire mesh security shower door.
