This 215 FT2 Home Doubles as a Design Studio and Even Boasts a Sauna

Imagine having a 215 ft2 (20m2)  space to work with, and needing to turn it into a showroom, home, and office. And, oh, it also had to have a sauna. It might seem impossible, but with a € 3,400 ($3,780) design budget and € 94,000 ($104,500) for renovations, it became a reality.

Design firm Studio A3 and twin company A3 Byggprojekt was tasked with the design and alterations of a 215 ft2 (20m2) tiny house in Gothenburg. The goal was to pull off a Japanese and Scandinavian style tiny home that was pleasant to live in but also inspired creativity. Project manager Daniel Wolgast and his team more than delivered.

To ensure all furniture, storage, and design aspects worked in harmony, everything was made to measure. Even the staircase and its railings, right through to the storage benches and bed frame were customs for this project. Believe it or not, there is even storage in the bed headboard and bathroom mirror.

There are drawers in the sofa, a table on wheels with storage in the center, and a staircase that walks over the kitchen bench to access the bedroom. The staircase is oak with steel beams for a seamless look.

tiny-house-studio-a3 (11) The conservative size of the bedroom doesn’t mean it lacks in storage. Everything from the headboard to the base is somewhere to put the owner’s possessions.

tiny-house-studio-a3 (13) Trying to fit a sauna into a 20m2 tiny house might seem impossible, but it’s not for the team at A3. It measures 1.5m2 and works harmoniously with the shower and toilet.
