If you’ve seen Michael and Carlene Duffy in action on the TV renovation show ‘The Block,’ then you will know they are no strangers to a challenge. They thrive on turning something average into something extraordinary, and Vonnie the Vintage Van is no exception.
With several years of design and renovation experience, including with their business Cedar + Suede, they were able to draw on their knowledge to create their dream camper. Vonnie would allow the pair and their two children to pack away the tent for good.
They went with a mint and white color scheme to pay tribute to Vonnie’s vintage heritage but didn’t forget Australia either. In the mix, they managed to incorporate forest shades of green to pay homage to the bush of Australia and the beauty of nature. They then made everything else in the caravan work around those prominent colors.
The dining nook boasts a velvet green seating area, satin gold table framing, and brass detailing.
With overbearing laminate materials before they set about adding their touch, they broke it up with a marble mosaic table top and vinyl planks on their counters.
A brass kitchen tap and stick-on subway tiling splashbacks would be the icing on the cake, transforming the glossy interior into one with eclectic styling and texture throughout. That wasn’t all this dynamic duo would do either.
They removed doors from the bedroom to open up the area, moved the bed around, and took away overhead cupboards and made shelving instead.
A standout feature in the van and one they hadn’t seen before was a nook at the front.
You could use it for study, play, reading, or even as a dressing table. They added vinyl plank flooring to the bench surface, then bought a $20 op-shop stool to enhance the area.
The beautiful paint job on the exterior to tie the whole package together came from White Knight, which ticked the remaining box for this lovely vintage caravan. Michael and Carlene wanted a van that would take the hassle out of trips away. There will be no more packing up a tent in the rain for this happy family.
