The Shanghai design company TOWOdesign has transformed a 48 m2 tiny space into an incredible home, all by utilizing a 10-degree angle for spatial awareness.
By utilizing functional box-like rooms, mirrors, and plenty of space maximization, the designers were able to make it an open plan home with a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and full kitchen as well. What’s more, it’s an exquisite example of contemporary living, all the while playing on your brain’s perception of space to avoid claustrophobia and the feeling of being cramped and stepping on your family’s toes.
The heart of the home is always the kitchen, and this one is no different. The kitchen operates with a large, central yellow box which acts as both storage for all areas of the home while housing all your kitchen necessities such as a fold-down dining table.
The yellow of the cabinetry also looks striking against the stark white flooring found seamlessly throughout.
The kitchen then backs onto the living area which sits at a 10-degree angle for that feeling of space. It’s here you benefit from plenty of natural light, as well as a hidden wardrobe and air conditioning unit in the leftover space by angling the room to a 10-degree angle.
Just as the kitchen was housed within a “box-like” shape, so too is the bedroom. Except, rather than offer bold yellow tones, you benefit from warm and cozy wood walls that provide a feeling of comfort at the same time.
Even though you only have 48 square meters at your disposable, you do not feel like you’re in anything less than a home. This beautiful future-proofed property is a prime example of what you can achieve with small spaces in the 21st century.
To accentuate the feeling of space while not compromising on style, there are cleverly placed mirrors situated throughout the home, as well as additional lighting in corners to work beautifully with those angles and sharp lines. Chinese people do not allow the use of mirrors you can see from the bedroom, but TOWOdesign has combatted this problem with ease.
