When a successful artist in Los Angeles asks you to build a tiny home that’s functional, luxurious, but most importantly, small, you don’t let the opportunity pass you by. Instead, you get to work creating something that sets the scene for many other homes in the future. That’s precisely what David Latimer from New Frontier Tiny Homes has done, with the help of architectural designers and an interior designer.
Known as Orchid Tiny House, this 32-foot long tiny home on wheels was built off-site and transported to a remote piece of land in Southern California.
It’s akin to a gable farmhouse but offers contemporary touches and a future-proofed finish you could only expect from high-end homes. It then becomes the epitome of off-the-grid living – but with a comfortable 310 square-foot layout.
If it’s not the exterior that captures your attention, then it will be the lighting. With inspiration from the 2017 eclipse, designers and decorators have included LED strip lighting throughout the trim while utilizing as much natural light as possible with floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights.
The kitchen is elevated and centrally located for convenience.

The owner enjoys a full-size master bed in a loft setting.
Indoor/outdoor flow is maximized with both floor-to-ceiling windows and doors and skylights.
Fitting in seamlessly with the warm maple plywood is a full-size bed behind the sofa. The sofa bed features solid walnut and has been custom designed to fit the space.
Even though the bathroom has to contend with off-the-grid living with no septic or sewage, it’s a luxurious set-up all the same. It features custom tiling, LED lighting, a floating sink, a premium Cinderella incinerator toilet, and a full shower. Solar panels also power the entire home.
The generous bathroom offers plenty of storage while accentuating spacial awareness with mirrors.
