French Tiny House Boasts Innovative Desk That Goes Through the Mezzanine Floor        

While many people like charming tiny homes to blend in seamlessly with their cottage gardens, others prefer modern, cutting-edge tiny homes that push the limits of creativity. And that’s exactly what ‘Sauvage’ is, the tiny home built by French company Baluchon.

David is a fan of Scandinavian design and architecture and wanted a sharp, clean-looking tiny home to place on his land in Mayenne. He enlisted the services of Baluchon and created this modern tiny home that takes tiny home living to a whole new level.

From the spacious living area and galley kitchen to the well-equipped bathroom, shower cabin, loft bedroom, and exciting desk invention, this French tiny home has it all. While build and buy costs for this Sauvage tiny home are not listed on the Baluchon website, most sell for between USD 91,000-108,000 or €80,000-95,000.

Sauvage is an architecturally magnificent 20-foot (6m) tiny home built for two with red cedar cladding and black aluminium accents made on a double-axle trailer. Mayenne local man David enlisted the services of French tiny home company Baluchon to assist with this modern build.

Alongside beautiful exterior cladding materials, Sauvage also has double-glazed wood and aluminium windows and insulation consisting of hemp, linen, and cotton for year-round warmth and comfort.

David wanted a bright and open interior in his tiny home, and that’s exactly what he got. Alongside having plenty of windows and doors to let in natural light, the interior consists of light wood walls and furniture featuring light three-ply ash panels to brighten the tiny home even further.

Hemp, cotton, and linen insulation undoubtedly keep this tiny home warm year-round, but the wood stove at the entrance adds to its efforts while improving the space’s ambience on those gloomy winter days.

The dining table in the living and dining area is a showstopper with its gorgeous solid ash top and natural edges. It can also be placed in several parts of the living room for complete versatility.

David will be able to watch the world go by from the large window in the living space. While he can use the bench in front of it as a seat, he can also utilize the underneath cabinets for storage. David plans to use the bench for his turntable and speakers.

While the galley kitchen is small, it has everything he needs for convenient meal preparation, including a Klarstein fridge, a large sink, clay blocks for wine storage, and an electric hot water tank. There is also plenty of cabinetry and shelf storage.

David’s galley kitchen has two sets of cabinetry facing each other with a gorgeous natural colour palette, one of which houses the electric oven, storage space, and Sauter gas hobs.

The plywood stairs leading to the upstairs bedroom loft have been designed to provide plenty of storage space.

The bedroom on the mezzanine floor carries on the same natural theme as below, with plenty of windows to let in natural light and enough space for a 140 x 190cm bed.

Perhaps one of the most innovative features of the Sauvage tiny home is the desk feature. The desk is located in the bedroom and, to accommodate the low ceiling, has a hole placed in the floor/ceiling to allow the floor to function as a seat.

The bathroom is a natural oasis and is tucked away out of sight and out of mind at the far end of the tiny home through a custom-made ash door. It features a dry toilet boasting a stainless-steel bucket and shavings section, as well as a wardrobe cabinet for storage.

Sauvage also comes complete with a shower cabin, with enough space for a washbasin cabinet and an 80 x 80cm shower.
