In a highly desirable part of West Hampstead sat a four-storey Victorian terraced home with a back garden and 11 bedsits. While they served an accommodation purpose, the proximity of this structure to local shops and eateries meant there was a lot of potential for it to be much more. Therefore, Bicbloc – Interior Architecture and Design was given a brief to turn this once ordinary bedsit into a high-quality development, catering to professionals who desired the best of the best within proximity to the city centre.
Those 11 bedsits were soon transformed into 14 micro-apartments with shared social spaces and a large back garden under the brand identity of HUB Living. Before long, this co-living concept had become the first flagship development for the brand in London. Bicbloc not only designed these micro-apartments but also formed the branding of each. Their goal was to create “a unique interior layout designed to offer a smart arrangement of elements that maximises the space in each studio”.
And they well and truly succeeded – even from an aesthetics standard. Each of the apartments are the epitome of comfort and quality, with black oak or smoked walnut wood veneered panels and uniformity from floor to ceiling. The uncluttered, warm spaces offered porcelain-tiled bathrooms, walk-in showers, and ample storage for an uncluttered appeal. They also boasted innovation at every turn, with hideaway kitchens, pull-out desks, and underbed storage.
This high-quality development lays the foundation for what could be achieved in areas where land is scarce, but the demand for properties is growing.
