Some tiny house owners want their homes to stand out, but that’s certainly not the case with ‘Holz Hisla’, a tiny house owned by Alexander. This charming tiny house built by popular French tiny house builder Baluchon is all about blending in.
Its name, Holz Hisla, means ‘little wooden house’ in Alsatian. It will be Alexander’s full-time home in the historical region of Alsace in the northeast of France on the Rhine River plain.
Baluchon not only designed this house to blend in with surrounding architecture, but they also stayed true to its name. It truly is a little wooden house!
While Baluchon hasn’t listed a price for the Holz Hisla tiny house online, you can purchase similar tiny homes on their website for between €85,000-100,000, or around $94,600-111,300.
The Holz Hisla owned by Alexander and built by popular French tiny house builder Baluchon is a charming wooden house built on a six-metre-long trailer. Its name literally means little wooden house in Alsatian! With its red cedar cladding and half-timber details in burnt Douglas fir, it blends in beautifully with surrounding architecture in France’s northeast region of Alsace.
Alsace sees its fair share of brutally hot summers and bitterly cold winters. As a result, Baluchon knew it was important to prioritise insulation. They chose to insulate Holz Hisla with cotton, linen, and hemp on the floors and walls. They also insulated the ceiling with wood fibre.
Every home needs a grand entrance, and Holz Hisla is no exception. This quaint wooden house has a charming porch with railings and shelter. There’s even a tiny bench for storage and seating.
While simple in its design, Baluchon has thought of everything to create a charming, functional, and practical tiny home for full-time living. Upon entering through the porch area entrance, you’ll be in a bright, nature-inspired living room.
A two-seater sofa is tucked away in the corner, sitting adjacent to a wood stove. Those bitterly cold winter evenings won’t be a problem for owner Alexander! There’s also a ladder behind the front door for easy access to the two mezzanine floors.

How better to heat a rustic-style little wooden house than with a gorgeous little fireplace? This elevated fireplace is centrally located between the kitchen and living area. All tools to maintain it are conveniently installed on the side of the kitchen cabinet for easy access.
The kitchen in Holz Hisla is as versatile as they come, with plenty of meal preparation room and an abundance of dining space. A two-part table forms part of the countertops that folds out to accommodate up to four people for a meal. Once finished, it folds flat against the counter. The kitchen also boasts a large wardrobe, a long row of shelving, and plenty of nooks and crannies to store all life’s necessities!
Baluchon thought of everything to create a practical kitchen for convenient year-round use. The worktop and table feature solid oak for charm and longevity. There’s also a striking black sink, a refrigerator, and a gas stove tucked away in the corner. This tiny home’s owner can even enjoy hollow clay blocks to keep his bottles cool.
This tiny home might be so small that it only needs a six-metre-long trailer, but it still has enough space for comfortable everyday living. There are two mezzanine floors to make use of all available ceiling space. While both can function as bedrooms, only one is being used for this purpose. It has enough space for a Queen-size mattress.
The second mezzanine, while slightly smaller, is the perfect space for relaxation, storage, or even a guest bedroom.
Holz Hisla’s bathroom is simple yet beautifully designed to work in with the overall rustic style of this tiny home. It has beautiful wood walls and floors and has a dry toilet with a stainless steel bucket and shavings compartment. A well-placed window works well for ventilation and natural light.
Of course, what bathroom is complete without a shower? Holz Hisla has a simple 80 x 80cm shower adjacent to the toilet and is easily accessible from the tiny home’s kitchen.
