If you think back to your childhood, a typical treehouse might have been a few planks of scrap wood and a whole lot of imagination to make it into something it certainly wasn’t. Even at its best, it still wasn’t something you could sleep in or even stay in while it was a bit fresh outside.
Fuselage, a flat-pack three by five-meter treehouse structure from Tree Tents International is changing the concept of a treehouse – and all for the better. It’s a treehouse, a sanctuary, and an escape from reality all in one. It also takes camping to an entirely new level – being more of a glamping experience instead.
To create Fuselage, Tree Tents International took inspiration from aerospace design for its cylindrical shape. They then used a triple-layer insulated aluminum skin and robust framework that’s both lightweight and durable. As a result, you can put this flat-pack treehouse almost anywhere – no matter the terrain type.
Fuselage features low-voltage heating and a micro wood stove to keep the chill out of the air. This home away from home even has solar power, so you don’t have to give up all your creature comforts when you’re out in the wilderness.
When it came down to the crunch, too, the manufacturers cared equally as much about the environment as they did about creating a unique treehouse to suit business owners and families alike. The modular, flat-pack houses require no heavy machinery for on-site installation, and they feature all sustainably-sourced wood and recycled aluminum. You can also hang them from trees or put them on giant stilts – depending on your preference and site.
During the manufacturing process, waste is kept to a minimum too. Tree Tents International take wood and metal scraps, turning them into camping accessories that accentuate the “outdoor” brand.
You would think that with such a minimalistic approach, Fuselage would be anything but comfortable. However, that’s not the case. The entire generous interior has marine ply hardwood flooring, birch lining, and a lockable entrance for peace of mind. It also comes with double-glazed windows to retain all that much-needed heat throughout the colder months.
Finally, you also get all the furnishings you desire, customizing each Fuselage treehouse to suit your needs. This may include bunk beds for the kids and a double bed that turns into a dining booth with a table during the day. The price tag varies, depending on what your interior looks like, but Fuselage prices start at £26,000, or around USD 33,400, without installation or taxes.
