If you’ve ever said that you love a store so much you could live there, that could be your new reality. IKEA is renowned for its affordable, compact, and functional furniture, and herein lies your opportunity to rent an IKEA-furnished 10sqm split-level apartment for just ¥99 ($1) per month.
The furnished apartment in Shinjuku, Japan, forms part of IKEA’s new innovative Tiny Homes campaign, highlighting the practicality of the Swedish home furnishing company’s furniture and its functionality in the smallest of spaces.
The Tiny Homes apartment rental service campaign has been put together for one apartment and is being offered to just one lucky member of the IKEA Family membership program for rent from December 15, 2021, until January 15, 2023. Utilities and moving costs aren’t included.
There is bound to be stiff competition for the rental agreement, especially when you see how beautifully set up this apartment is. It boasts everything one person would need in a home, including a kitchenette, washing machine, bathroom with a toilet and shower, and a loft space for a bed.
Décor and all furnishings come courtesy of IKEA, including a Muddus drop-down table for two people, the ever-popular ‘Ivar’ shelving set, and a comfortable Alefjäll office chair.
If the thought of living in IKEA heaven appeals, now’s the time to act. Visit IKEA stores in Shinjuku, Harajuku, or Shibuya to meet IKEA’s mascot, a shark real estate agent named Blåhaj. Blåhaj appears in many of the company’s YouTube videos featuring the new apartment, and he will also be showcasing some of the best IKEA pieces for small urban spaces. Applicants have until Friday, December 3, to apply for the rental apartment. More information (in Japanese) here
