Some seek out tiny homes for a permanent change in lifestyle, while others are looking for a cozy spot to spend a few days or enjoy a weekend retreat. Häuslein Tiny House Co., an Australian company, offers a solution with their creation, the ‘Gunyah’—a term from the indigenous language that translates to a house or shelter. Their innovative designs are crafted in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, on the traditional lands of the Birpai people.
While this abode might not be suitable for full-time living, it’s the epitome of luxury for Airbnb stays or when friends and family members come to visit. At under three tonnes, it’s also easy to relocate with most four-wheel-drive vehicles.
Gunyah has everything that 1-2 tiny home dwellers need for rest and relaxation, including beautiful rustic materials, a functional kitchen, a user-friendly bathroom, and comfortable living and sleeping areas.
As a semi-nomadic traveler or someone wishing to make income from Airbnb and similar sites, Gunyah could tick all the right boxes. This tiny home is available from Häuslein Tiny House Co., starting from AUD 102,500, including GST.

Häuslein Tiny House Co has reimagined the traditional ’cabin in the woods’ image with Gunyah, a 5m long x 2.5m wide by 4.3m tall tiny home built in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, on Birpai land. The name ’Gunyah’ means house, hut, shelter in the local aboriginal language.
With a weight between 2.85 to 3 tonnes, Gunyah is conveniently towable by a range of four-wheel-drive vehicles. Its structure is reinforced with timber frames that are resistant to termites, offering added durability. The exterior is clad with a subdued COLORBOND® MATT Trimdek, paired with Western red cedar accents to create a classic, rustic aesthetic. To ensure longevity, the finish is sealed with a robust marine varnish.

Despite its simplicity and rustic charm, it’s easy to see that Gunyah is a quality build. The single front door leading into the tiny house boasts aluminum and glass. There is also an abundance of aluminum windows with energy-efficient SP10 SmartGlass to let in plenty of natural light.
The compact dwelling is equipped with a 240-volt, 15-amp power connection, identical to those commonly used in caravans. A garden hose fitting allows for a convenient water supply, and all wastewater plumbing has been plumbed to one point underneath the bathroom. You can also choose whether to add on the verandah or leave your tiny home without one.
Single-Sided Kitchen

The kitchen might be simple, but overnight guests will want for nothing. This single-sided kitchen has soft-close drawers and cupboards to hide away all those kitchen goods. There is also high-quality Rhino Ply cabinetry and a gorgeous combination of white and wood for that contemporary touch.

Despite its ’cabin in the woods’ styling, the kitchen is modern and highly functional. The black stainless kitchen sink has a clever in-sink strainer, and the black is tied together with the black fixtures and tapware. There is also an under-sink pull-out bin to make cleaning a breeze and extra storage space on the cypress pine shelf above the kitchen window.

Wood is undoubtedly the most common material in this tiny house build, with solid cypress pine flooring and bench tops. There are also pine features throughout to tie the look together. Those who purchase Gunyah will love the gaps left in the cabinetry to allow for your own drawer dishwasher and bar fridge. You certainly don’t have to go without modern conveniences.
Awning Window

The breakfast bar is adjacent to the single-wall kitchen, with a brilliant awning window to take advantage of. Visitors will love being able to enjoy their breakfast with the window open, letting in fresh air, and watching wildlife. The deck addition also provides incredible indoor-outdoor flow.

Depending on your unique needs, you can choose from two different living area layouts. The first layout has space for a two- or three-seater couch, a small side table, and a TV on a wall bracket. The second layout provides a bed base for a queen-size mattress, spacious storage drawers, and room for a TV on a wall bracket at the end of the bed.’

While cabins are notoriously dark and dingy, that’s certainly not the case with Gunyah. The whitewashed pine panel walls combined with large windows create a wide open, bright, and spacious interior.
The gorgeous cypress pine ladder leading up to the loft area breaks up the starkness of the whitewashed walls. There is also a cypress pine spindle balustrade for safety and the illusion of privacy.

Cozy Loft Area

The loft area might be cozy, but it’s exceptionally comfortable. The A-frame ceiling gives the average person space to stand up in the middle. There is also a ceiling window, letting in plenty of natural light. This loft has enough room for a double-size mattress and a side table.

Häuslein Tiny House Co chose to install a custom-made sliding barn door leading to the bathroom for both design and space-saving purposes. It ties in with the home’s rustic theme while ensuring minimal unusable space. The black hardware on this door ties in beautifully with the black kitchen sink and faucet.

The bathroom is more functional than expected for a compact, tiny home. It boasts gorgeous whitewashed walls, a vanity unit with a custom-made cypress sink, and even a shelf above the toilet for essentials. The extraction fan makes it a comfortable area to be in, while the LED backlit mirror adds a sense of space. The bathroom floor is also easy to clean, courtesy of the epoxy materials.
While Gunyah comes with a composting toilet as standard, you can swap it out for a traditional flush model.

Gunyah features a spacious 900mm x 900mm shower, complete with a bespoke curtain rod, a premium shower curtain, and contemporary black fixtures. Guests are also bound to appreciate the instant hot water courtesy of the Dux instant gas hot water system.
