French tiny house company Baluchon is known for pushing the limits of what’s possible and conventional. The L’île au Trésor (Tresor Island) tiny house is an example of just how creative they can get when their clients have very specific needs.
The Tresor Island tiny house was delivered to the Nantes Vineyard, where it would be the primary home of Marie, Pierrick, their cat, Muchacha, and their dog, Dana.
The L’île au Trésor fits into its vineyard backdrop seamlessly, with farm-style red cedar and heat-treated poplar cladding with maroon accents. With two levels and incredible architecture to maximize the available space, it’s the perfect size for the busy vineyard couple.
The L’île au Trésor (Tresor Island) tiny house was created by the well-known French tiny house company Baluchon for Marie and Pierrick of the Nantes Vineyard. They would be living in Tresor Island full-time with their two pets – Dana the dog and Muchacha the cat.
Baluchon thought of everything when bringing this tiny home to life, including the cladding materials to tie it into its vineyard backdrop – red cedar and heat-treated poplar. These two cladding materials enhance the contrast between the two levels.
L’île au Trésor might be tiny, but every element has been carefully executed to maximize all available space. Upon entering through the country-style maroon door, you’ll be greeted by small oak shelves for knick-knacks. These have been thoughtfully fixed to the bathroom partition. There is also a ladder for easy access to the loft bedroom.
The maroon accents on L’île au Trésor’s exterior have been carried on through to the interior, with striking maroon kitchen cabinetry paired with natural wood accents. All worktops are finished in solid oak, while the surrounding walls and flooring materials are a lighter shade of oak to brighten up the space.
The kitchen also has everything Marie and Pierrick need for everyday living, including a fridge tucked under the counter, a hot water tank, dual gas hobs, and a sink.
The Tresor Island tiny home doesn’t have a dining area, but it also doesn’t need one. Baluchon incorporated a pull-out table into the kitchen cabinetry that pulls out like a drawer. It comfortably caters to two people sitting on stools. The kitchen also guides you through to the wardrobe in the rear. This wardrobe not only offers an abundance of storage space but also has an airlock and cat flap for Muchacha.
You can never have enough storage space in a tiny home. The staircase opposite the kitchen providing access to the living room mezzanine floor has plenty of storage. It’s the perfect spot for kitchen goods, books, and other everyday essentials.
Mezzanine Living Room
Most tiny homes on the market have a similar layout because tiny home owners don’t know what else is possible. However, Baluchon doesn’t stick with convention. In fact, they opt for the total opposite. L’île au Trésor’s layout is unlike most tiny home layouts you would have seen before, with the living area positioned on the upper floor and one of the two bedrooms on the lower floor.
The quaint, comfortable, and easily accessible upstairs lounge is thoughtfully decorated with a large sofa and a hand-crafted coffee table made by Baluchon. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, yet the space feels warm and welcoming courtesy of the wood walls and natural rug covering the oak flooring.
What about the space under the living room, you ask? Well, Baluchon thought of everything. They turned it into a small room that can easily become a child’s bedroom. Otherwise, you can use it as a hobby room or storage space.
The children’s bedroom or hobby room is accessible by a sliding door to maximize space. It features the same beautiful wood flooring and walls as the rest of the tiny house.
The bedroom underneath the living room has enough room for a double bed or two single beds. Slide the sliding door into place, and it can be hidden from the rest of the house. No one will even know it’s there!
Master Bedroom
Loft bedrooms can traditionally feel cramped, small, and dark. That’s certainly not the case with L’île au Trésor. Rather than using solid half-walls for safety and definition, Baluchon installed solid oak railings with stainless steel cables.
The master bedroom on the mezzanine floor is surprisingly spacious, with enough room for a double bed. This can run parallel to the large window, letting in plenty of natural light and airflow. Baluchon opted to use a trunk suitcase as a bedside table.
While light wood is the common theme throughout L’île au Trésor, you’re in for a shock when you enter the bathroom. Hot pink is the dominant color, with it being used as a feature wall behind the dry toilet. This toilet has a stainless-steel bucket and shavings compartment for easy use, maintenance, and cleaning. Baluchon has also chosen to tie the pink feature wall in with pink bathroom accessories.
No tiny home is complete without a shower. An 80cm by 80cm shower has been installed adjacent to the toilet. The all-white interior works well with the pink feature wall.
While Baluchon hasn’t listed the price tag for this beautiful house on wheels, tiny houses of this caliber typically sell for between €85,000 and 100,000, or around $94,600 to 111,300.
