Kyle, Kristin, their one-year-old child Peyton and their dog, Hudson, make bus life look easy. Just three years before moving into their bus called Butter Bus full-time in October 2021, Kristin had said she would never live on a bus. With time, Kyle eventually convinced her to embrace the prospect, especially as it meant the couple could enjoy many adventures together.
After thinking about what they wanted, the couple purchased Butter Bus from another family in July 2021 and got ready for their adventure. They sold their home in Jax Beach, Florida, Kristin left her full-time job as a financial advisor and took up part-time work for a non-profit, and Kyle remained working full-time as a remote worker in software sales.
They then embarked on the journey of a lifetime in Butter Bus, enjoying everything the United States has to offer. As exciting as their journey has been, Kyle and Kristin say it hasn’t always been easy. They sometimes found it challenging to raise a baby on a bus and combat challenges like running out of solar power, ensuring the bus was at a comfortable temperature and enduring the frustrations of moving things around. However, they’ve made memories they’ll remember forever.
After spending a year exploring the United States and with another baby on the way, Kyle and Kristin are now ready to settle down and let another family enjoy their bus as they have. If Butter Bus sounds like your dream home on wheels, you can contact Kyle and Kristin on Instagram @the.butter.bus.
Butter Bus is a 40-foot bus that couple Kyle and Kristin purchased in July 2021. They started their United States adventure with their baby and dog in October 2021 and are now ready to sell up and settle down.
Kyle, Kristin, baby Peyton and Hudson the Vizsla enjoyed an entire year exploring the United States in the Butter Bus, with Kyle working remotely full-time and Kristin working part-time.
Traveling and living in a bus full-time with a dog might seem challenging, but Kristin and Kyle say Hudson is the laziest Vizsla they have ever met. He has a bed in the driver’s seat where he likes to snooze when they’re not on the move.
As Kyle works full-time, he needed a comfortable work area. The dinette was one of the latest additions to the Butter Bus and had an abundance of storage space and natural light.
The dinette was the perfect workspace for Kyle, but it also had plenty of storage for Peyton’s books and toys.
Once Kyle finishes work for the day, the dinette can be transformed into a lounger for a comfortable TV-watching experience.
There’s no shortage of creature comforts in the Butter Bus. There is a seven-foot couch in the heart of the bus, which can pull out to a lounger for movie nights. It’s ideal for when Kristin and Kyle have guests and even comes with built-in storage for convenience.
Keeping the Butter Bus at a comfortable temperature was always a challenge for Kyle and Kristin, but they found it much easier with the Tiny Wood Stove Dwarf 4kw, positioned in the kitchen area of the bus.
The kitchen has everything Kyle and Kristin need to cook up a storm, including generous counter space, a three-burner stove, a spice rack, and plenty of drawers.
Every kitchen needs storage, and this bus certainly isn’t lacking any. There is an expansive pull-out kitchen backing onto the kitchen and extra storage in a cabinet above it. The kitchen also has a top and bottom fridge freezer and a sliding door to separate the living and kitchen areas from the bedroom, bathroom, and laundry.
The bathroom is an extra special part of the Butter Bus with a gorgeous modern vanity, brass faucet, and fern wallpaper from Anthropologie.
Adjacent to the vanity in the bathroom is a toilet room with a composting toilet. The toilet is accessible via an emergency exit door, which lets in plenty of natural light.
The shower in the Butter Bus is on the opposite side of the toilet and vanity. The unique roof offers extra height and even has a skylight to make the space look and feel larger. Kristin and Kyle love the rain shower head and say it’s one of their favorite features.
Every family needs to wash and dry their clothes – even if they live on a bus. Kristin and Kyle have a washer-dryer combo tucked away in a storage area near the bedroom.
Peyton’s bunk bed with storage is located near the laundry nook, with a wardrobe on the opposite side of where she sleeps. This small area leads to the main bedroom.
Kristin and Kyle’s bedroom is a serene and relaxing space with exceptional use of natural wood and calming natural colors. It also has enough room for a king-size bed with under-bed storage.
